Evaluation of animation advert

Our advert was advertising Silvikrin hairspray using pixilation. We decided to do this after we had an original idea of cut-out animation of cartoon/hand-drawn images which after some planning we realised would not work as well as we originally thought. We therefore converted our idea to our hairspray pixilation advert, which I think worked well. The idea of the advert is persuade our audience to buy the product, as well as this we wanted it to be memorable so our customers will remember our product and also for them to enjoy it.
After our class viewed our advert we sent out a survey so we could have some feedback and their opinion on how well they feel it worked so we could analysis these results and see what did or did not work.
Untitled.pngWe felt this was an important question to ask because this involves how the audience found the production of the advert. Our responses were all positive and told us that we chose the right type of animation. I found that pixilation was the best type of animation to use because it allowed us to show our product being use by a real person so the audience can relate to it. It also made it more interesting by putting a real life person in an unrealistic situation which will draw the audience in. Our results show that this worked well and that our thought behind using pixilation has been portrayed in the correct way in our advert.

We wanted to know how well the pixilation had worked and how our audience found watching it. This involves the persistence of version and how well the advert transitioned. According to the persistence of vision we are supposed to see 12 frames per second. Our advert ran for 26 seconds and included around 600 photos. This means there was about 23 photos per second. However we did not get all positive feedback on this question. I think this is not because we used enough pictures but more down to how our model moved in each picture and we should have taken smaller movements in the picture to prevent the jumping.

We chose to ask this question because we wanted to know what specifically went well. We gave our respondents the opportunity to answer questions in a form where they could write their own their own answer so we could have a more personal response from them. This enabled us to see everyones personal opinion on our advert and for us to see where we went well. Our most common response from the respondents was the idea we had to put the clouds in to make it look like she was walking, which were digitally put in the photos afterwards. We also got a lot of good and helpful feedback about our ideas and the general response was that they liked how it was different and individual which is what our aim was, as I think that is the key to a successful and memorable advert.

The response we got from this particular question was not really the response we hoped for. I think this told us that maybe we should have included the product more, featured it and excelled it more within our advert. We could have made it specific to what makes it stand out in comparison to other hairsprays and what makes our one was so good. However it could be down sample of respondents such as their gender (e.g. males are unlikely to purchase this product) or their personality type. However we still had 37.5% who said they would purchase the product.

When producing our advert we wanted to have music that would enhance the advert and make it more exciting and intriguing. It was also aimed to match the target audience of a young adult/teen audience so we chose music that we thought would reflect that. From our responses I feel like we achieved this and matched correctly, as I don’t feel that any particular soundtrack will be enjoyed by everyone.

I feel this was an important question to ask so we recognise where we went wrong from other peoples point of views. I personally agreed with everything that was said in the responses as I feel we could have made a lot of improvements if we had the time. I think we should have taken more time to do this so we would of had time to change things or re-do pictures. We did have a longer narrative planned but because on the day of shooting there was only one of us and we didn’t have time to get it all done. I also think we could have taken more pictures or had smaller movements in the pictures to make it look smoother.
